Community Engagement
Focus Groups 2005/2006
Seniors (50+) living in the Rocky View County have been meeting over the past nine months to develop a deeper understanding of local and regional community assets. Communities Development Society partnered with Community Futures Centre West (CFCW), the University of Calgary, the County of Rocky View and the Bearspaw Lions Club to hold six focus groups in Cochrane, Bragg Creek/Redwood Meadows, Beaupre/Grand Valley, Westbrook and Bearspaw/Glendale.
They identified the need for investment in community-based infrastructure and social supports for seniors such as housing, transportation, isolation, health related services, environment and preserving historical information.

Community Matters Forums 2007
Four community forums were held in the fall of 2007 to encourage community residents (including electoral candidates) to engage in collaborative community development dialogue. In addition it was hoped that the forums would increase resident interest and participation in the local municipal election and civic responsibility.
Our method was to model a community-led planning
approach that resulted in participants articulating community issues, identifying challenges and
developing solutions thereby contributing to the vibrancy of their community.
