Rural Seniors Advisory Committee
"We are not only building seniors housing, we are building community."
Seniors should have a choice of ageing in their own homes or selecting a retirement community that supports our citizens in our own communities. We believe, most importantly, that seniors should have the choice to stay in their own rural community.
The Rural Seniors Advisory Committee have been addressing the need for seniors to remain in their communities as they age by providing community based housing and support service options. This group of up to 20 seniors contributed over 250 volunteer hours (by mid 2009)They are committed and eager to "roll their sleeves up" and to speak to the need for the aging population in the County.

CDS Goals
- to develop a community that can support seniors through their golden years
- to develop supportive networks and services that will allow seniors to continue to live in their own homes
- to provide opportunities for seniors to continue to contribute to society
- to provide rural based senior housing communities that will allow seniors to age close to family and friends

CDS Age in Community Plan
CDS will compile a list of all available senior resources and identify where new resources need to be developed. Through partnerships and existing grants CDS will work with community organizations to undertake new initiatives. Our plan is to understand how we can help seniors stay in their own homes for as long as they wish, help them access the resources they need to remain independent within their homes, and have options to move into a retirement community when needed.
The CDS Commitment
We believe that finding solutions providing for the care of our senior citizens requires the involvement of seniors in decision making. We are "grounded" in the belief that development should respect the importance of seniors' opinions and ideas.Back to Programs
